Urban anthropologies is a term used to describe the ways in which humans are different from other animals. It is also the term that was used to describe how we have been shaped by society. There are various levels to this concept. From the individual to the collective and everything in between. For example, there are the so-called animal-like creatures that are found in nature (such as elephants), while there are non-animal-like creatures such as the human.
This one is easy. You are an animal. The elephant is an animal. The zebra is an animal. There are other animals as well. So because of this, we have an animal-like thing and non-animal-like things. This is what anthropologist anthropologists like David Graeber call the “double bind.

What you’re saying is that the old-style anthropological studies of urban and rural environments, as well as the research on the way we live, are really good. Their research is pretty good, and they get to tell us about things that most people don’t even know about. But I think this is the real test.

I always ask people who are familiar with urban area like Chicago or San Francisco “What are your thoughts on this?” It’s almost impossible to answer. You can’t even look at the map and say, “Hmm… I want to live in the city.” So it’s easier to just say, “I don’t know.
The fact that we are all basically in the city at the same time isn’t necessarily bad. You can’t expect everyone to have the same values, or have the same beliefs, or the same opinions, or the same prejudices. So while you might not know every one of us, you can still learn a lot by talking to people who are familiar with our city.
