This is a question I have received many times, but it is still a question I’ve never fully answered.
I have been to the Emergency Room on 3 occasions in my life. The first time was when I was 7 and my dad had something wrong with his knee and they gave me the shock of my life. I was so afraid I couldnt move. The next time was when I was 15 and my grandma had leukemia. I was scared that she would die. The last time I was at the ER was when I was 17 and my cousin had a seizure and died.
I think everyone should go to the ER at least once, and I would agree with you that it is best to be proactive. If you are at your house and you hear or feel any sort of pain, call 911 or the nearest hospital. If you are in a store and you feel a sharp pain, go into the bathroom and pull your shirt up to see if there is a blood clot or infection.
I understand the desire to go to the ER, but sometimes the doctor is in the wrong place. I went to the ER once because my mom had a headache and I was worried about the blood pressure and couldn’t find the right place to get it checked. In this case the doctor wasn’t in the right place. If you are in danger, don’t go to the ER.
I was in the ER a few years ago because my mom was having a seizure and the doctors couldnt figure out what had happened. The doctor didn’t know the cause of the seizure or the exact cause of the pain, just that it was a “severe headache.” My mom was put on an IV, and after an hour of the doctor pushing IVs and waiting for more information, I came out of the ER with a prescription for pain killers.
Doctors like to make sure you can survive the process so that they can then get on with other patients. Doctors love to know the cause of your problems and how you are going to fix it. I think it is a good idea in general to go to the ER and get checked out. This helps the doctors determine what the cause of your pain is, and it helps the pain stop.
As with any drug, the best way to start pain is to start slow. If you are really hurting, you need to sit down with your doctor and figure out what is happening. This can be hard, but the important thing is that you are doing your part to help the docs. I wish I had gone to the ER.
If your pain is caused by something that has not been diagnosed, it is more likely to go away if you take medication. And if your pain has gone away and is not being treated, then it is probably a good idea to go to the ER to get checked out.
I’ve been to the ER just about every day for my 10 year old son. He has been in pain for three days straight now and no one really knows what is wrong with him. But I made the decision to go to the ER at the last minute. The doctor took a few X-rays and told him that it was probably just heat exhaustion. I wasn’t upset about that; I’m a bit of a cold person by nature.
Yeah, he’s got the flu and he’s feeling a little feverish. But I think you’ll be just fine, and besides, you have much more important things to worry about than whether your kid is getting better or not.
