I don’t use the word self-cleaning in the sense of self-cleaning, but in the sense of cleaning a hotpoint oven. I’m a fan of using a good quality, high-efficiency oven, so I have a lot of experience in properly cleaning them.

Neither of these tasks is as easy as simply removing the food. It took me a long time to remove a cake from the middle of it’s cake stand before I was able to clean the rest of the cake stand off.
I’m not sure how you’d clean the inside of an oven using just hot water, but I’ve used a hot water bottle to clean the tops of my ovens. But I just can’t imagine how you would remove a cake from a cake stand, let alone a standing cake.

The idea of an oven being cleaned by hot water comes from John Wilcox, a famous American inventor who created the Wilcox Hot Plate. Wilcox was one of the first manufacturers to use a hot water bottle to clean his ovens. The bottle was connected to a hose and a rag. The hot water ran through the rag to the bottom of the bucket and then the hot water bottles were placed in a sink.
