When it comes to foster care, social workers are expected to be the perfect “partners” to the children they are responsible for care for. However, if they are not ready to be a part of the lives of children who they care about, they need to be given the tools to be more patient and empathetic.
I am a social worker and foster care social worker, and I have to say that it is a big problem for me when a prospective parent comes in to see me and asks me to help them. I am very bad at this, but I am really bad at being this person who can do this job for people who aren’t even ready for us. I have seen this happen a few times, most recently with a family who has been placed with their foster parent for several years now.
I have had three foster parents come to see me for various things over the last four years. They all came in for their first meeting and I was like “I am not your babysitter. I am here to help you with everything.” I could tell they were just about ready to tell me to take them home, but I was like “I really want to see you at work, and I am here to help you with everything.
The first thing I told them was to ask me why they are coming to see me. I had never had a foster parent come to see me, and when I did I was nervous about the whole thing. In fact, I was nervous because I didn’t know how they would react. I told them they would be surprised. I told them that they were my friends, that they helped me when I was going through my divorce, and that I did what I could for them.
The problem is that most foster parents want to see foster kids in their home, but they don’t always get to see the kids. Most of the time foster parents and foster kids have a very different relationship. It’s no secret that foster homes are very different from foster children’s home.
While foster parents have more autonomy than foster children, foster childrens home is a very different thing. The home is the place where the child is held in a safe environment with care, love, and security. In foster homes the child is held in a home filled with people who have very specific job, who care about them, and who want to see the child grow up to become a responsible, competent adult.
A foster child can have a great experience in a foster home, but it is not the same thing as a foster child. Not to mention the fact that foster care is often expensive, very stressful, and filled with emotional and physical abuse.
I see foster care as a temporary solution for a child who needs a better, more stable, and more loving environment. A child who is being held in an unsafe foster home may be in foster care for a very short time, but the child needs a permanent placement. As long as the child looks and acts like a responsible, independent adult, then it is likely that the home will keep the child safe and give the child a good experience.
