A growing body of research suggests that certain herpes infections can cause infertility, as well as other conditions. In fact, herpes is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States.
One study found that women with genital herpes who had unprotected sex before marriage were 12% more likely to become infertile than women who didn’t have such a relationship.
My husband has herpes, and having it, was by far the most embarrassing thing he ever experienced in his life. We’ve never been able to conceive, so this might be one of the reasons. But it’s also possible that the condition is just so widespread in the population, and so many people are still infected despite the fact that the numbers have dropped.
Another plausible explanation is that, like many other STDs, herpes causes infertility. This is because the virus often leaves an open wound, which often triggers a woman to go to a doctor and get treatment for it. However, having genital herpes is also associated with other STDs. Again, it’s possible that the low numbers of women with the condition, and the fact that there is so much stigma around it, might be pushing some women to seek treatment for it.
In 2010 the CDC noted that the percentage of women with STDs (including herpes) at the time was about the same as the number of women who would be affected by a mass extinction event. That’s a small number indeed. However it’s important to note that most of the women who get STDs are younger and in their twenties. The decline in the numbers of these women is due to the fact that many STDs are becoming more difficult to diagnose, and thus more difficult to treat.
Of course HIV/AIDS and herpes aren’t the only STDs that are making it hard to detect. The CDC also notes that the number of pregnancies in the United States is falling. This is due in part to the decline in the age of first intercourse, and the rise in the age of first childbirth.
The number of women getting pregnant and having children is falling, but this is due to the advent of safer sex. And that’s the biggest killer at the moment: the growing number of sexually active adolescents. Of course, that’s not the only reason the number of teen pregnancies is falling, but it continues to get more difficult to detect. This is because young people are increasingly using condoms during their first sexual encounters.
the fact that adolescents are increasingly using condoms and safe sexual practices is not necessarily the only reason for the falling rate of teen pregnancy. The other possibility is that condoms are still being used because teens are more careful, and they’re less likely to expose themselves to pregnancy in the first place. Or it could be that they’re concerned about STDs. Either way, the fact that young people are increasingly using condoms is a big reason for the falling rate of childbearing.
The problem is that teens are also increasingly using condoms because they need to. And although it might be a very good idea to use condoms in the first place, there’s no point in having sex if you don’t have sex. So when you have sex, you’re not using condoms.
The good news is that it doesn’t matter. Because if youre already at the age where youre going to have sex, then you can just use condoms. Unfortunately, there are a lot of teenage girls out there who just happen to be infected with herpes. And their boyfriends, husbands, and partners are going to be getting them. You have to make sure your boyfriends are aware, but you may have to make the call for his partner.
