In order for it to feel like we’ve made the right decision, we have to feel some emotion about it. But if we don’t feel like making the right decision, we can’t feel sadness, which, by itself, doesn’t make the right decision. It’s the feeling that comes with regret that makes the right decision.
We have a tendency to avoid feeling regret. We avoid feeling sadness because it feels like weve just done something terrible. After we make the right decision, we dont need to feel anything about it; we can just feel the emotion of sadness because that emotion is what makes us feel like weve made the right decision.
When we feel sadness, we feel like weve done something wrong because, unfortunately, we feel like weve done something wrong. Most times when we are sad, we feel like we have failed. What makes us feel like weve failed is the emotion of regret. The emotion of regret is the feeling of sadness and the emotion of sadness makes us feel like weve failed. We feel like weve failed when we feel like weve failed.
