Yoga is a way of life, which is essentially a way of life for most of us. A lot of the time we forget this, and that’s why yoga is so important. There is a lot of information, a lot of research, and tons of books. These are all things we want to learn about because it’s so important.
But there is a lot of misinformation out there about yoga and the way we practice it. So much of it is too good to be true, and yet too dangerous to be true.
Yoga is a religion, and so is every other form of religion, like Buddhism. There are two main types of yoga that we can practice: the “physical” and the “spiritual.” The physical type involves the body, breathing, and mind, and the spiritual type involves the mind, space, and the body.
Physical yoga works a bit like cardio. It doesn’t take you as much time as a jog or yoga class, but you still manage to burn a lot of calories and build your muscles. But if you feel more comfortable with the physical type of yoga, you can also do it lying in a yoga posture with a strap around your body. The one-armed, lying down type of yoga is a lot more gentle and calming.
This type of yoga is perfect for those who want to work out of bed in the morning, but find it hard to get to the studio and need to take a break. There are also many variations of this type of yoga. One type is called mandala yoga, which is the physical type, and the other is kundalini yoga. Kundalini yoga is the most popular, and involves standing with your feet directly in front of your navel and your hands in your ears.
The word mandala is derived from the Sanskrit word for “wheel,” and it’s an ancient tradition of yoga that involves rotating your body in circles while you breathe. The more “mandalic” the practice, the more you can focus on the mind, which is the place where most problems reside. Kundalini has a more physical form, and can be used for more specific exercises, like holding a large tree in one’s arms.
As I was writing this article, I was reading a blog post written by one of our members, who is a yoga teacher and yoga meditator. She wrote about the difference between the yoga practice called yoga mandala and the yoga practice called yoga nada, which is more of a relaxing method of yoga. (The blog post is here.) I wasn’t aware of the difference between the two, and I’m not even sure where I read the blog post.
We call it “Yoga Nidra” in the States, but in the UK it’s more commonly known as “yoga mandala”. In the US it’s called “yoga nada”.
So it seems that this yoga practice is more of a relaxing, calming, and mental state, which I think is a bit more suited to meditation. It’s also good for the heart and lungs, which leads to the next point.
I know I tend to be a bit of a hypochondriac. I tend to think of anything that sounds like a chest pain or a cold as a serious thing. But yoga is more a way of relaxing than it is a serious cure. It’s a way of getting your mind off of things and just enjoying the moment. So that said, I tend to feel a bit of a chest tightness when I do yoga and not because I’m really getting rid of something.
