For women with heavy menstrual bleeding, the doctor’s office feels like the worst place. You have to deal with an hour or more of waiting, not to mention the fear of not knowing what to expect if it’s anything other than heavy menstrual bleeding.
Because of this, women with heavy bleeding should go to the emergency room to have their blood tested. Because of this, the number of women who have severe menstrual bleeding needs to be increased.
Because of this, there is always a need for women to get emergency medical attention. It is also the case that emergency medical treatment can cause women to bleed more than a healthy person would. In addition to the women who need emergency medical attention, women with severe bleeding should go to the hospital in order to be tested for blood clots, which could cause permanent damage.
The fact of the matter is that women can get blood clots from the same things that cause men to bleed. For example, if a woman is pregnant and has a history of severe menstrual bleeding, the blood will contain the protein PSA, which is a protein produced by the testicles and prostate. PSA is also a protein produced by the ovaries and testicles.
Not surprisingly the most common causes of severe menstrual bleeding in women is endometriosis (the condition that causes cysts and pain in the uterus), but there are other causes, including other types of pelvic surgeries, and even certain contraceptive types of pills.
PSA is a good thing, but it doesn’t always indicate endometriosis. There are other causes of severe menstrual bleeding in women, including (but not limited to) pregnancy, trauma, hormonal changes, and certain drugs that can cause the blood to clot (like the birth control pill).
This is a good point. If you suspect that your menstrual cycle has changed and you know you are the type of woman to have severe menstrual bleeding, you may want to look into getting a pelvic exam. In some cases, the bleeding may not be severe, but it does need to be evaluated.
The pelvic exam is generally considered to be an unpleasant process, but can be quite effective if done properly. If you have severe bleeding, it can be very helpful to have your doctor examine you and see if there are any underlying illnesses that need to be dealt with.
It is a very invasive procedure, but it can be very effective. For more information, see the link here.
Again, pelvic exams are not recommended if you are bleeding heavily. Although it may not feel unpleasant, the bleeding may mean that something more serious is going on, like a uterine cancer. However, they are often extremely helpful for other reasons, too, like diagnosing ectopic pregnancy. If you have a period with heavy bleeding, don’t ignore it! Keep asking your doctor about any other problems you are having that may require more invasive tests.
