I know this one may seem counter intuitive. For many, it is a self-conscious feeling of being aware and grounded in a place. In fact, for many, it is a place where they feel they can begin to take control of their lives.
I’ve noticed that a lot of people who are self-conscious about being grounded are often on the verge of giving up on the idea of having a place to call their own. It’s a place you feel safe and secure in. It is a place that allows you to be yourself.
I don’t know about you, but I feel like I have an outlet (or at least an outlet for my feelings). In short, I can call on the support of friends and family whenever I need it. I can call on the support of my therapist and/or therapist friends whenever I need a little extra guidance. I can call on the support of my dog and cat, and/or my partner, whenever I feel vulnerable.
I also don’t have as much support as I thought I did. When I was a kid, my family would always tell me to “give yourself a break” and then throw me a nice dinner or a bottle of wine. Now I do my best to avoid spending all night and all day trying to get over a breakup. Instead, I stay busy, making sure I have things done around the house, and I do what I can to make myself feel better.
The most important thing I can do for myself is to take care of myself. I’m not an expert on how to do that, but I do know that it’s not something that you have to do full time, as long as you make sure you do it.
The truth is that if you are doing well and feel like you’re “getting your shit together” then it is a great idea to take a break from all that. The problem is that most of the time, the only thing that gets done when we are having a hard time is more of the same. We don’t take time to relax and chill out. We can’t.
The problem with taking time to relax is that you are still taking time to be stressed. The more we take time to relax and chill out, the more stress gets in the way of our daily lives. By taking time to be stressed, we get a better chance of relaxing. Relaxation is a concept that is very useful for both the body and the mind. In fact, the very reason we take time to relax is so that we can relax.
I don’t want to sit here and harp on the bad points of taking a break, but I thought it was useful to talk about why this is a bad idea. I have to admit, I was always on the other side of this argument. I know I have been. I have been stressed to the max for most of the past year, and in fact have been in the process of trying to figure out how to relax for a long time too.
The problem with going on your vacation too long or having a vacation too long is that what you do to relax can be used against you later. As I mentioned, I have been stressing over the past year and a half about how to relax and how to take a break.
This is all true, but I wonder if the problem lies with the fact that many people don’t use their vacations to recharge. Many people don’t take time out to relax. The whole point of a vacation is to get away for a few days or a week or however long you want to take a break from your busy life. But many people don’t take time out to recharge. They just take a trip and get back to the same old, same old.
