If you have a family that’s a “conservative,” you probably have to deal with the family dynamic that comes with it. There are the things you have to do to keep your family safe, the things you have to do to keep your family healthy, the things you have to do to keep you from going to jail, and so on. These things are so important that you can’t let anything else stand in your way.
The same thing happens with prefixes. As you get older, you become more conservative. You become more controlling, less adventurous, less free spirited. You take on parental roles, and you take on social roles, and you take on moral roles. You take on more of the traditional ways of doing things, and you get more and more involved in the traditional ways of doing things. That’s why you have to deal with the family dynamic.
prefixing is a way of saying to yourself, “Well, I’m not going to do that.” In the words of a popular TV show, “I’m not going to do that.” It gives you a sense of not being in control, and makes the idea of doing something scary (even if it is a good thing) seem more important.
