Menopause is an all-too-common time for ladies to feel stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, and sad about their bodies and their life. It’s also a great time to practice relaxation techniques to ease the emotional pressure.
As we all know, menopause can often feel like a roller-coaster ride. It can be so exhausting to have your body change all of the sudden, and it can also be so painful and uncomfortable, you can find yourself having a harder time sleeping and waking up. Menopause can also be hard on your mental health since you’re dealing with a hormonal imbalance (which in turn can cause menopause-related mood swings).
Menopause is a time when we need to take care and be careful with what we put in our bodies. It is also a time when we should try to relax and decompress. There are many ways to relax, and I suggest you try a few out. I will list a few of my favorite relaxation techniques, and I’ll share them with you. You can also check out a few of my other favorite relaxation tips.
There are many women who suffer from some form of menopause-related mood swings. Many of these women go through menopause and end up in the hospital for mood-related issues. One of the reasons these mood swings happen is because we tend to have higher levels of cortisol during this time. Cortisol is one of the body’s stress and mood-regulating hormones. In high levels of stress, cortisol tends to suppress the production of brain chemicals that control mood.
Cortisol is produced in the adrenal glands which, when the body is under stress, are not able to produce enough cortisol. Our bodies release more cortisol when we have this type of stress. So, we end up having high levels of cortisol, and then we can experience a drop in mood.
Menopause can cause this. A study by Dr. David B. Goldstein at the University of Massachusetts Medical School showed that women who had a normal menopause at the time they were tested for the study had lower levels of cortisol than women who had a pre-menopause. The problem is that they didn’t have the normal stress that goes along with menopause.
Stress is an important part of both our mental and physical health, so it’s important to recognize when it’s being taken care of. With that in mind, here are a few basic tips for menopause which can help you relax and have more sexual energy.
First, try to take a hot bath after getting out of the shower. That will lower your stress hormones. Second, try to move more. Work out on a treadmill or elliptical machine. Work on your posture. Third, get into a regular meditation routine that incorporates deep breathing and other mind-body techniques. Lastly, eat healthy foods.
