I couldn’t help but notice the recent “Coffee Break” incident. When the volunteers at iowa put their cups down and started to get up, one of the coffee makers on the island started spewing out a thick, steaming liquid. The volunteers promptly called for an emergency meeting. At which point, volunteers were asked if they would like to leave the island. The answer was a resounding “Nope.
I don’t know about you, but I find the response to this kind of abuse to be a little strange. I mean, I can’t see why a coffee maker would need to be spewing out a potentially dangerous substance, and I find it hard to believe that the only people who would have to leave this island are the volunteers themselves. But, then I’m a cynic and I’m also human.
Well, no. And the response is a little odd because I don’t think its only the volunteers that can’t leave. Just try and think about the whole idea of a “cant leave” option when you’re a volunteer. If you’re a staff member and you really like your job, you might want to consider leaving.
Im not sure that the “cant leave” idea is inherently bad. It may be a case of the opposite, though. For example, say you’re a volunteer and you want to leave for a few days. You could have a plan that you want to follow for those few days to make sure you’re not being followed by someone. Or, you could just leave and have a good excuse that makes you look like you’re not doing anything bad.
