I’ve been asked to write the third chapter of my book, “The Japanese Method of Zen Buddhism.” I’m honored to have the opportunity to share some of the teachings of Zen Buddhism with you today.

The book is a collection of Zen Buddhist teachings in an effort to help others understand the teachings of Zen Buddhism and gain a greater understanding of how we can practice the Buddhist religion in everyday life. I hope that you enjoy the article.
The author is a Zen Buddhist, but his background is not just Zen. He studied with Dogen Zenji, a famous Japanese monk who founded the Soto school of Buddhism. In his introduction to the book, he says, “The goal of Zen is to be able to see the world in a new way.” The New Testament of Zen Buddhism is definitely an effort to “see the world in a new way.
The author’s background is in Zen Buddhism. That makes Sense. He’s probably the most qualified person to write about mindfulness, or even Zen Buddhism. But that doesn’t stop him from using the word “Zen” in the title.
The Zen term for “new way” is “tataki”. The term for “way” is “duseki”. In other words, “Zazen” is the way that we see. The Soto School of Buddhism is a way of seeing. The New Testament of Zen Buddhism is a way of seeing.
Its like when you’re walking on the beach and you see a wave coming in. You don’t know if it is a wave, but you know that it is a wave. The Zen term for wave is inoueninja. The way of wave is the way of inoueninja. The way to see the wave is the way of inoueninja.
This is a concept that I don’t understand because it leaves so little room for interpretation. How do you see a wave? How do you see an object that you can see? How do you see a person that you can see? The Zen definition of inoueninja is “not knowing.” The term Zen for wave is inoueninja. Wave is the way of inoueninja. Wave is not the way Zen is.
Zen is the way of seeing what you can see. It is the way of knowing what you can know. Zen is the way of not knowing. Inoueninja is the way of knowing what you cannot know. To Zen we must first understand what we do not know and how we do not know. To Zen we must then understand what we can know and how we can know.
