Hypothyroidism is a medical condition in which the thyroid gland becomes the only source of energy for the body. It’s characterized by fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, and other signs of a compromised immune system. Blood pressure is another facet of the condition that can cause symptoms, but blood pressure is not the only symptom. Hypothyroidism is also characterized by an increase in the body’s tendency to store salt.
Blood pressure is the number that tells how hard a person’s heart is working. The higher the number, the worse the heart is working. If you have a high blood pressure, your heart is working really hard, which can cause your arteries to get clogged up and make it hard for the blood to flow evenly.
Hypothyroidism is a condition where the thyroid gland is unable to do its job properly. This can be due to a thyroid problem itself (which can be a thyroid nodule) or a thyroid issue such as autoimmune thyroiditis. Autoimmune thyroiditis is an autoimmune condition where the thyroid gland is attacking itself.
It’s always a good idea to check your blood pressure every now and then, particularly if you’re new to the game. Blood pressure is a good indicator of how well the heart is functioning and how much stress the heart is under. If your blood pressure is elevated, it can be a sign that the heart is working really hard, which can cause arteries to block and cause pain in the wrist.

In the case of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism in the brain, the endocrine glands in the pituitary gland, or thyroid, usually produce too much of a hormone which in turn can cause a high blood pressure. In some cases the excess hormone can cause the blood vessels to grow very large and cause pressure in the heart and brain.
Like hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism in the brain is most often caused by excessive production of thyroid hormones from the thyroid gland, usually in the setting of an infection. In a sense, a brain infection (like a flu or a cold) can cause a person to become hypothyroid. In this case, the brain has begun to produce too much thyroid hormone, and the body has a defense mechanism to kick in to prevent the excess hormone from getting into the bloodstream.
The most common form of hyperthyroidism is a condition called goiters, which are small growths on the thyroid gland. The condition can be caused by many different things, including overactive thyroid hormones, thyroid cancer, lymphoma, or even a brain infection like a brain tumor.
Goiters aren’t a big deal when the person is hypothyroid. If a person is hypothyroid but has no thyroid problems, then hypothyroidism is a mild symptom of the condition. But if the person has a goiter and has thyroid problems or has a thyroid problem and also has been diagnosed with the condition, then the condition is much more serious and potentially life-threatening.
