The American Heart Association recently released their recommendation that for women over the age of 40 who have higher blood levels of folic acid, they may take a vitamin supplement. If you were reading up on folic acid a few years ago, you may remember the story of an elderly man who decided to take a daily dose of the vitamin for an almost two-year period. He had a very low blood level of folic acid, and he found that his blood levels were going up and up.
That’s a very interesting story as well as the reason for the vitamin, but the bottom line is that high folic acid levels can be a sign of poor health. And if you’re over the age of 40, you’re at an increased risk for developing certain types of diseases.
Many health risks are more prevalent with older adults, but high folic acid levels are one of the more recent ones. In fact, the highest folic acid levels have been seen in those over sixty-five.
Folic acid is a B vitamin. In order to get it, you need to have a healthy diet which has a high content of fiber, vegetables, fruits, and fish. Folic acid is a type of B vitamin. The other B vitamins are Vitamin B1, B2 (including B3), B3 (including B6), B5, and B6. Most people get enough of all of these vitamins, but folic acid is the most common type.
Most people who are over sixty-five are taking a high dose of folic acid, it has been shown to reduce the risk of certain cancers, and in some cases, help protect against heart disease.
The same thing happens when you take B6. B6 is a B vitamin. It’s an amino acid that is needed in the body for proper energy production and for healthy cell function. The other B vitamins include B9, B12, and B3.
The problem is that folic acid has to be taken daily (otherwise, cells can’t reproduce properly). And while we’re on the subject of B vitamins, B5 is an amino acid used to build your red blood cells. The B5 in blood is needed to produce antibodies which fight against infections. B12 is a B Vitamin that is important for building your red blood cells.
A test that measures the amount of folic acid in your blood is often done as a part of a blood workup, but there are a lot of ways that it can be abused. If you’re missing that B vitamin, your brain will not be able to produce as much of the neurotransmitters that it needs to function properly. And your body will not be able to produce enough red blood cells to carry oxygen and provide energy needed for brain function.
The FDA says that some blood tests can cause folic acid levels to be below the normal range. It says that if you have low levels of B12, B12 supplements should be avoided. But it also says that if you test low, do not treat it with B12 supplements. And you should also consider using a supplement that has folic acid.
The FDA doesn’t give us any good advice for choosing a supplement that has folic acid. We’ve got some advice from a couple of our friends on the subject: If you suspect you are low in B12, use a folic acid supplement. If you suspect you are low in folic acid, you could try taking a supplement with folic acid.
