This seems like a pretty simple question, but I feel like I’ve been there. No, you can’t make yourself gain weight while taking folic acid, but that doesn’t mean that it’s dangerous or that you shouldn’t do it. There are a few things that you should know about this nutrient, however, and I wanted to lay out some of the evidence and research around it.

However, I do think it’s interesting that low folic acid levels (the same as the blood level of anemia) are very common in people who do not have iron deficiency anemia.
This is probably a good thing, but I think the correlation is not always so great. Also, I am not exactly sure why iron deficiency anemia is such a common problem. I know that I have it, but I don’t know why. Maybe because low iron levels are common in a large segment of the population who are actually iron deficient, but just do not get enough to make a difference.
I am not sure about the answer to your question, but folic acid maybe helps to not cause anemia. Theoretically, it could be that the blood of anemia patients does not have enough iron. I am not sure though, because I am not an anemia patient.
Folic acid is not the only factor in iron deficiency anemia. It is important to note that the fact that folic acid is not required for iron absorption does not mean that it isn’t effective in preventing iron deficiency. It is possible that anemic people are less likely to get enough iron from other sources.
