do midwives do ultrasounds: 11 Thing You’re Forgetting to Do

I think this is one of those things that are true for everyone. Many midwives do ultrasounds, but for many, the concept of it is really foreign and confusing. There’s a reason for this.

Yes, ultrasounds are something that most midwives do, and yes, most midwives do ultrasounds, but it’s not something you might expect from a midwife. Yes, in the beginning, ultrasounds did help diagnose and treat some pregnancies, but ultrasounds are not a cure for anything. Even so, it’s not something that is often done and usually only in the most dire and desperate of circumstances.

In mid-2012, a midwife in Canada was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had been doing ultrasounds with her husband. Her doctor told her that they didn’t exist. The doctor said that the doctors who had done them all over the world had turned a blind eye to this and had “gotten away with it”. She was adamant that she would never do another ultrasound unless there was a way for her husband to have a non-invasive option.

This is the problem with ultrasounds. The idea that they don’t exist is completely false. They do exist and have been around for well over a century. Most ultrasounds are done with a transducer, which is essentially a tiny speaker. When you do an ultrasound, the transducer emits a high frequency sound, and that’s where the sound waves from the transducer come in contact with your body.

Ultrasounds are mostly used for reproductive purposes, but a few do help with diagnosing certain conditions and are used in the medical world for internal medicine. As a result, there are hundreds of companies working on making them as safe as possible. The trouble is that they can be dangerous. For one, you can suffer a serious medical emergency if you get an ultrasound that’s not right. For another, many people, including children, have a tendency to get a false negative ultrasound.

A false negative can mean that your doctors didn’t spot a problem early enough and only diagnosed you after you had a minor accident. And a false positive can mean that your doctors didn’t see something in your body that they missed. Just last month, the FDA was forced to reclassify ultrasounds for human use as Class II devices because of these false positives and false negatives.

Ultrasounds are a whole different ballgame. The biggest reason that a doctor does an ultrasound is because they have to. The average person does not have a problem with having a doctor come to their house to check on them, but it can be a problem if they do not have a doctor at their home to perform it.

The issue is not so much that it is wrong to have ultrasounds but that doctors are not being allowed to tell you that it is wrong to have them. Many doctors have been trained to perform ultrasounds to verify certain life-threatening conditions. This is not just a problem for the elderly, it is for anyone with a real medical problem. A mother who is having a baby with a high-risk pregnancy should have a doctor’s help with the ultrasound.

Why do midwives need ultrasounds? They are supposed to be a quick way to test for things that are otherwise undetectable if everything goes as planned. Midwives were trained as a quick way to confirm that your baby is a girl rather than a boy.

As it turns out, they probably do. The midwives are not an easy group. After all, they already spend an average of nine hours every day on the phone with patients, and the reason they have to be in the office the same hour every day is because they are also the ones doing the ultrasounds. Midwives are not a very efficient bunch; their time is highly limited, and their workload is very repetitive.
