Scented pads are not a bad or a good idea. It depends on how you use them. For example, if you use them to dry your sheets or to brush your bedding, then they may be fine, but if you use them with your perfume, you should be cautious of possible allergic reactions.
If you were using a scented pad to dry your sheets or brush your bedding, you would probably be able to feel the scent of the room you were in. But if you were using them with your perfume, then you have no idea what that scent might be. If you then use them with your perfume, your nose can get inflamed.
The same could be said about using a scented pad for your sheets. If you were using a scented pad to brush your bedding, then it would be fine. But if you were using them to dry your sheets, then you should be aware that they may not be as comfortable as one might hope.
Since you know the scent of the room you are in, you could use a scented pad to brush your sheets, but since you are not aware of the scent of the room, you may find that the sheets are not wet enough. It is the same for your pillowcases.
While we don’t have a lot of data that can directly compare the performance of different scented pads, we do have a ton of data that can indicate that scented pads aren’t worth the trade-off. Here’s a graph of the performance of different scented pads in two test rooms. By using a scented pad, you are effectively creating a temporary scent that is more pleasant, but not as comfortable as just using a brush.
In your face, its not like you can just pull out the scented pad and go to sleep with a fresh scent on your pillow. Also, the scented pad is basically putting a scent in your room that you may not even like. In short, you are wasting a lot of money. One of the reasons that we found that scented pads were not worth the trade-off is that the scented pad is supposed to last for as long as your bedding.
We think that the main flaw with these pads is that they are not as durable as the actual bedding. They can get really messy and you don’t really want to use them on your bed, unless you are using them to create a scent. You should invest in a good night’s sleep with a good pad.

I don’t believe in scented pads though. I think they are just as messy and hard to clean as the bedding. However, we thought our review sounded like it was worth mentioning.
I think the scented pads may be a tad over-rated. I have a friend who used to be very very into scented pads. She would wear them on the bed and think nothing of it. However, she would wake up to find something on her pillow and be horrified. She would then clean her pillow with a dryer and try to move on to the next pad. If she was a lot more observant, she would wear a mattress protector.
