I think this is because sometimes it’s easier to practice a long, slow, focused breath when you can count the inhalation and exhalation as one and not have to think about it.
The breath of awareness is the method that many yogis use to practice yoga and meditation. When you breathe in and out in a particular way you allow yourself to be aware of your breath going in and out. This awareness is often compared to that of a person who is meditating. The breath of awareness is a breath of peace, or an end of the breath or a pause in the breath.
